FAQs

How do I find a local church?

A important part of Christian identity, lifestyle and spiritual growth is involement with a local church. Moving away from home, you may need to take responsibility for this for the first time. Here's some advice:

  • It should be a first priority to find and commit to a local church. The longer you leave it, the harder it gets.
  • A good starting point is to check out our partner churches. These are churches that are committed to our ministry and so share our faith and commitment to mission.
  • Commit to one local church, rather than a mix and match of different services and Bible studies from several churches. You will only really be spiritual cared for and active in ministry when you commit to one local church.
  • Don't choose a church based on how cool the music is, how much it reminds you of your church back home or how many pretty girls there are. Evaluate a church on its teaching, godliness and gospel ministry.
  • It is hard work to break into a new church. Don't wait to be welcomed, work hard at some of the following: introduce yourself to the pastor, listen to the notices, give your contact details to the church office, accept every invitation to social events and church programs, be brave enough to introduce yourself to people, volunteer for rosters and other minstries.

Why should I get involved with Uni Fellowship when I'm already active in my local church?

We are not seeking to duplicate what happens in local churches. We want all our members to also be active members of local churches.

Does that mean the Uni Fellowship is really just an optional extra for those who want to take a course in Christianity while at uni? No. We believe involvement in university ministry should be the default setting for all Christians going to uni. Why?

  1. You will be stretched theologically at the same academic level as your studies. It would be a tragedy to have a tertiary level knowledge of chemsitry, but a Sunday school knowledge of your Christian faith.
  2. We will address the particular practical and theoretical issues you will be facing while at university. The Uni Fellowship will uniquely equip to live for Christ while at uni.
  3. Christians gather together. Whether at work, school or university, Christians rightly seek to gather together to encourage one another and share the gospel with those around them.
  4. We are not offering you anything, we are asking something of you. The Uni Fellowship is not about meeting your social needs, support needs or discipleship needs. We are recruiting you to join with us to reach the campus with the gospel of Christ.
